Designed for travellers who want to slow down as much as they want to explore, this five-day expedition pairs the classic Dadès Valley and Erg Chegaga dune circuit with two full nights at rest beside the palm trees of Oasis Tilogui, near Zagora — no early starts, just the desert at your own pace.
From there it's on to a night beneath the stars at Erg Chegaga after a sunset camel trek, and a scenic piste crossing past Lake Iriqui and the carpet town of Taznakht to a final night at the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou itself — a fitting finale before the return to Marrakech.
Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, with a stop at the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou en route. Continue along the Route of the Kasbahs and the Dadès Gorges to see the ‘Monkey Fingers’ rock formations.
Visit the rose water cooperative at Kalaat M'Gouna in the morning, then descend the Drâa Valley through its palm groves, Agdz and the Kasbah of Tamnougalt. Arrive at the Oasis Tilogui near Zagora to settle in among the palm trees.
Visit Tamegroute in the morning for its green pottery and historic Quranic library, then drive to M'Hamid, where the paved road ends. Continue by 4x4 into the wild 300-metre dunes of Erg Chegaga for a sunset camel trek.
An optional sunrise over the dunes. Cross the piste from Chegaga to Foum Zguid via Lake Iriqui, then continue to Taznakht, capital of the Berber carpet, for a cooperative visit. Arrive at Aït Ben Haddou in the late afternoon to visit the kasbah at sunset.
A free morning at Aït Ben Haddou for photographs before returning to Marrakech via Ouarzazate, the scenic Ounila Valley and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, arriving in the mid-afternoon.
