Morocco's longest river valley: around 200km of palm groves, mudbrick kasbahs and Berber villages threading south from Agdz to Zagora.
South of Ouarzazate, the road follows the Drâa River into its namesake valley — the largest palm oasis in Morocco, unfurling for roughly 200 kilometres of date palms, mudbrick kasbahs and quiet Berber villages.
Agdz makes a natural first stop, with panoramic viewpoints over the palmeraie, followed by the Kasbah of Tamnougalt, one of the valley's best-preserved fortified villages. From here the road continues south past a string of ksour toward Zagora, gateway to the desert proper.
Few stretches of road in Morocco pack in so much green against so much rock — the Drâa Valley is the slow, scenic counterpoint to the dunes that lie beyond it.
