Threaded along what's known as the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, the Dadès Valley is one of the most photographed stretches of southern Morocco. Fortified kasbahs, many now in ruins, line the roadside above terraced fields, while the Dadès Gorges themselves twist through cliffs sculpted into the surreal, folded shapes known as the ‘Monkey Fingers’.
Just up the road, Kalaat M'Gouna anchors the Mgoun Valley — Morocco's Rose Valley — where a local cooperative distils Damask roses into rose water year-round, with the flowers themselves blooming each April and May.
